China: New Self-Immolations, Protest Reported in Sichuan’s Ngaba

On 9 December 2018 Gendun Gyatso and Choekyi Gyatso, two young Tibetans set themselves ablaze in Ngaba (in Chinese, Aba) county in Sichuan province to protest the new surge of opposition to China’s rule in Tibetan areas. Another teenager launched a solo protest in the county town calling for Tibetan freedom.
On 1 December 2018, hundreds of activists were arrested as they held a rally calling for the Melanesian region’s independence; a few were also met by was blocked from marching to the city center by scores of counterprotesters from several youth organisations waving the Indonesian flag.
China: Tibetan Man Burns to Death in New Ngaba Protest

On 4 November 2018, Dopo, a young Tibetan activist, set himself ablaze and died in Sichuan’s Ngaba county in a protest challenging Chinese rule in Tibetan areas.
