Another journalist has been booked under Cyber Act in Moulvibazar. In that case, Cyber Tribunal of Sylhet on Thursday denied the bail of journalist Mashahid Ahmed and ordered him to be sent to jail.
In this incident, journalists working in Moulvibazar held an emergency meeting on Friday (March 15) and expressed strong anger and condemnation of professional insecurity.
The leaders of Moulvibazar Online Press Club said that about six months ago, the police shot, tortured and filed a case against the innocent people of the surrounding villages over Shahbazpur tea plantation land in Baralekha Upazila of Moulvibazar. The news was published in various media.
General Secretary of Moulvibazar Online Press Club and District Representative of Sylhet Bani Patrika of National Daily Usm Kanth and Dai: Md. The manager of Shahbazpur Tea Garden filed a case against some others including Mashahid Ahmed in Cyber Tribunal.
On Thursday (March 14), journalist Mashahid Ahmad appeared at Cyber Tribunal Sylhet and pleaded for bail.
Journalist leaders of the district said that the liberation of the people is impossible without free media. Journalist Mashahid Ahmed has been working with honesty and integrity for a long time. He was uncompromising against injustice. In the hands of such a professional journalist, 'Haat Kaada' means stifling the voice of the common people. Therefore, journalist leaders demanded the release of journalist Mashahid Ahmed immediately.
In protest, Moulvibazar Online Press Club, Bangladesh Human Rights Implementation Organization, Moulvibazar District Committee have jointly organized a human chain and protest rally at Moulvibazar Chaumuhani tomorrow Saturday (March 16) at noon.
