Bangladesh: case filed against three journalists livestreaming press conference

Barishal Cyber Tribunal asked the police to investigate a case against six people, including three journalists, for live-streaming a press conference on social media Facebook at Patharghata press club in Barguna.
Patharghata police station inspector (investigation) Saifuzzaman on Monday said that on April 4, the case was filed under the Cyber Security Act in the Barishal Cyber Tribunal. ‘The tribunal asks us to investigate the case by sending a letter on Sunday night and we receive it on Monday,’ he said.
Liton Howlader, on behalf of expatriate Al Mamun, filed the case, for live-streaming a press conference, held by a woman alleging that Al Mamun raped her and forced her husband to divorce her, police said.
The accused in the case are – Patharghata upazila correspondent of Ajker Patrika and editor of local online portal Patharghata News Tariqul Islam, Al Amin Forkan of Kalbela, Suman Mollah of Mohona Television, victim woman, former union parishad member of Charduani Union Mujibur Rahman and Oli Ullah.
According to the case statement, Mamun took the victim’s husband to Saudi Arabia. Later, he contacted the victim on mobile phone and made immoral proposals to her. As the victim did not agree to Mamun’s proposals, his people took her husband as a hostage in Saudi Arabia. Then, Mamun returned home and raped the victim by keeping her confined for a month.
After the incident, Mamun went to Saudi again and sent the victim’s husband to the country to divorce her.
Later, Mamun filed 13 cases against the couple as they did not make divorce. The victim’s husband was arrested in a case of those in February.
