Bangladesh: three journalists attacked and injured by unknown assailants

In Dharmapasha of Sunamganj, three journalists were ambushed while collecting pictures and information about the illegal looting of soil by Excavator Machine (Vecu) from the government premises.
The injured journalists are the president of Dharmapasha Upazila Press Club, the upazila representative of Dainik Manabzamin. Isak Miah, Joint Editor of the Press Club, Nur Rahman Tushar, Upazila Representative of Daily Tritiya Matra and Mithu Miah, Upazila Representative of Daily Jayzaydin Patrika.
The attack happened around 1 pm yesterday. It is known that in front of Fulur village of Selbors Union of the upazila, a gang has been looting the soil for a long time by excavating land illegally from the government land with excavator (Veku) machines.
Last Friday, the Upazila Administration (Land) fined Tk 50,000 through a mobile court for illegally cutting these gangs. Even then, they did not stop looting their land. Yesterday these gangs were again cutting the soil with veku at the same place.
At that time, when the three journalists went to take pictures of cutting the soil, a gang organized with Momen of Uttar Bir village and Hiran Mia of Salop village, who was in charge of operating the Veku machine, snatched the cameras of the journalists and injured them in an ambush.
At one point, the three journalists escaped from their grip and took refuge in Shamsunnahar Market of Badshaganj Bazar. After some time before they realized anything, a group of 10-15 people attacked them again there too.
On receiving the news, the police rushed to the spot and rescued the journalists and sent them to the hospital. Officer in charge of Dharmapasha police station.
Samchuddoha said that three local journalists were attacked while collecting information about the illegal cutting of soil from government places.
The police quickly rescued them. He said the attackers fled before the police reached the spot. Legal action will be taken against the attackers if complaints are received in this regard.
