5 September 2009 Mr. Prashant Bhushan's interview with the Tehelka Magazine was published (Tehelka Magazine, Vol 6, Issue 35). In the interview, Mr. Bhushan expressed that of the last 16 to 17 Chief Justices, half of these justices have been corrupt. September 2009 (after the publication of Mr. Prashant Bhushan's interview in the Tehelka Magazine) A certain Mr. Harish Salve, who was then acting as an Amicus Curiae inone of the matters pending before the Supreme Court filed a Contempt of Court Petition in the Supreme Court of India against Mr. Prashant Bhushan. In the petition, Mr. Salve said that Mr. Bhushan's statement eroded the public confidence in the judiciary and "are contemptuous per se'. 9 October 2009 The Supreme Court of India allowed a plea by Mr. Harish Salve to initiate contempt proceedings against Mr. Bhushan. 14 July 2010 The Supreme Court of India permitted contempt proceedings against Mr.Prashant Bhushan for casting aspersions on judges, including Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia, and making objectionable remarks against them. A bench of Justice Altamas Kabir, Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice H.L. Dattu said that the contempt petition moved by Mr. Harish Salve would be heard in 10 November 2010.
