The Red and White Alliance (AMP), which is a combination of a number of student organizations in Gorontalo, again held a demonstration against President Joko Widodo's policy of raising the price of fuel oil (BBM), Friday (9/9) in the Saronde roundabout area, Gorontalo City. In addition to the fuel issue, students also urged that the articles in the RKUHP which were considered to threaten the freedom to express their aspirations be revoked.
The action, which had been going on since that afternoon, had to be stopped, because the police forced them to disperse. The dissolution was carried out because it had passed the specified time limit for delivering the oration, which was until 18.00 WITA. Before being required to disperse, some students first performed the evening prayer at the location of the action, after the oration prayers were resumed.
The barricades of the officers who had guarded the action from the start were then deployed and forced them to disperse. “Second warning, in the name of the law, I am the Head of the Gorontalo Police, ordering all the brothers and sisters to disperse. The time for expressing opinions is over," said Gorontalo City Police Chief, AKBP Ardi Rahananto through loudspeakers. From the students' side, they also said that they were orderly. The protesters only asked that before they disband, they could be met by Acting Governor Hamka Hendra Noer, and the Gorontalo Police Chief Inspector General Helmy Santika.
The student's voice was ignored, the loudspeaker from the direction of the police car, an order was heard to barricade the anti-riot security apparatus equipped with shields and batons. "Hu ha hu ha hu ha," a voice from the line of police rushed toward the crowd. “Dalmas forward,” ordered the loudspeaker, which kept the lined line of police officers moving. Behind the police line was a watercannon. Loudspeakers were also heard telling reporters who were on duty to cover the action, and the public was asked to stay away from the location.
"The public and journalists please leave the place," ordered the loudspeaker. The demonstrators were getting more and more pressured, and after they succeeded in repelling the demonstrators, the officers turned around.
Field General (Jenlap) AMP Arisaputra Batangale, regretted the action of the officers in disbanding the mass of action.
"I think the disbandment (yesterday, ed) could be communicated well without having to force and showing arrogance in the disbandment of the action period," said AMP Field General (Jenlap) Arisaputra Batangale. The students orderly dispersed and left the location of the action. Arisaputra also said that their action was a peaceful one. All they did was deliver speeches because they judged that President Joko Widodo's policies were not in favor of the people. "We, the red and white alliance, agreed on how in our action we can bring in the pj governor and the Gorontalo Regional Police Chief for how to later attend our action," he said. Until the action ended, neither the Governor nor the Kapolda met them. "We are not anarchists, our actions are peaceful, but on the ground the security is really tight," he said.
The action, which took place from the afternoon until sunset, was under strict security guard by the police. Hundreds of joint personnel from the Gorontalo Police and the Gorontalo City Police were deployed for security, anti-riot tactical vehicles were also deployed. The gas station area adjacent to the action site was even provided with razor wire to prevent the crowd from rushing in. As a result, the gas station also had to close during the demonstration. In the previous action, there were clashes with the police, because the students were forcing them to take control of the gas station. A number of students were reported injured, as well as members of the police who were injured and had to receive hospital treatment.
Gorontalo City Police Chief, AKBP Ardi Rahananto, told reporters at the location of the demonstration that the action was disbanded because it was no longer in accordance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the demonstration.
"We carry out according to the SOP, where at 18:00 it must be dispersed," said Gorontalo City Police Chief, AKBP Ardi Rahananto. He said that before the demonstration was disbanded, the police would take persuasive and preventive steps, by appealing to the masses to immediately disperse. The police chief was grateful, the appeal was obeyed, and the students dispersed. "Alhamdulillah, after we gave an appeal and warning, our younger students were able to disperse in an orderly manner," he said. "I thank you," added the Chief of Police.
