Human Rights Defender of Jajpur (Odisha, India) Mr. Biswanath Patra has been arrested by Odisha Police today (11 Dec, 2016) at about 8:30 AM . He is arrested from Kandhapal village in Sukinda police limits. His activities as HRD: Mr. Biswanath is well know activist in the Jajpur district and he fights for the rights of common man and against police atrocity. He is also a journalist in a local daily news paper (Dharitri). Recently he organised the laborers of local Seed Farm and demanded to recruit them in the farm. Yesterday(10 Dec, 2016)he along with the laborers of the seed farm union protested before the Farm and organised Black day there. Due to his work, he is arrested by the police intentionally. CSFHR intervention: Civil Society Forum on Human Rights (CSFHR) has condemned the action of the police and demanded unconditional release of Mr. Patra. We also inform Focal point of Odisha Human Rights Commission(OHRC) in the matter. We also talk to Superintendent of Police (SP), Jajpur on the matter. He said that He along with his supporters vandalized and ransacked the campus of seed farm.Inspector of Police, Sukinda Police Station is responding the phone when we tried about 10.30AM.
