As many as 4 demonstrators from the Executive Board of the Islamic Student Association (PB HMI) were detained by officers in the aftermath of the friction between the demonstrators and the police, in front of the Indonesian Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (29/8/2022).
The Head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kombes Pol Komarudin, said they were arrested for overreacting to the clashes.
"Yes, we separate them from the group, because they are too reactive," said Komarudin when met in the courtyard of the DPR RI Building, Monday (29/8/2022).
Komarudin said the separation was continued so that other members of the mass would not be provoked by emotions and react reactively as well.
Furthermore, Komarudin said the detained HMI members were not detained. But after the demonstrators dispersed, they were also returned.
"Yes, we only separate them so they don't take actions that provoke their friends," he explained.
Previously, it was reported that the demonstration carried out by the Executive Board of the Islamic Student Association (PB HMI) in front of the Indonesian Parliament Building, on Monday (29/8/2022) was marked by clashes.
The clashes started when a mass action tried to block Gatot Subroto's road, which is in front of the Indonesian Parliament Building. Semoat congestion occurred due to the blocking.
After blocking the road, riots broke out after one of the participants in the action and the police officers on guard got emotional.
Throwing used mineral water bottles, guard cones to BBU is unavoidable. Push action among them was unavoidable.
"Back off, back off," said the orator from the top of the command car.
The action returned to order after a mediation process between the leadership of the demonstrators and the police commander.
The action was also colored by the burning of tires and banners in front of the gates of the Indonesian Parliament Building. It was observed that during the action, bottles of mineral water were also thrown.
