A group of miscreants have beaten up a local journalist and broken his leg for publishing a report on adulterate milk production in Bhangura upazila of Pabna.
The victim, Md Manik Hossain, Bhangura upazila correspondent of Daily Khola Kagoj, is also the general secratery of Bhangura Press Club.
Bhangura Police Station officer-in-charge Nazmul Haque told New Age on Wednesday that Ismail Hossain, father of the injured journalist, filed a case with the police station on Tuesday night.
The accused are Md Rajib Hossain, Bayezid, Mahatab, Abul Bashar, Abu Taleb, Babu along with unidentified 2-3 others.
No one was arrested in the case yet.
According to the case statement, Rajib Ahmed, a milk trader of Chak Lakshikol village under Dilpashar union and Abul Bashar of Kaidanga village in the Bhangura upazila have been producing adulterate milk for a long time.
A few days ago, some journalists including Manik Hossain recorded a video of adulterate milk being produced and showed the upazila administration and police administration the video.
Later, the related news was published in different media.
On Tuesday, 10 to 12 miscreants including Bayezid, Rajib Hossain and Mahatab, led by Rajib Ahmed and Abul Bashar beat Manik on Pubil road, and took away his motorcycle and mobile phone.
Local people rescued him and took him to Bhangura Upazila Health Complex from where he was transferred to Pabna General Hospital.
Manik said that milk traders had been threatening him for a few days since the publication of the news.
‘My motorcycle and mobile were taken away. I am concerned about my family's safety,’ he said.
However, the accused could not be contacted for comment on the matter.
