On the 29th December 2014, Mr. Ganesh Chandra Panda, a shop owner and Right To Information activist, was violently murdered by as-yet unknown assailants on the outskirts of his village in Odisha state. It is strongly believed that Mr. Panda's murder is in retaliation for his recent RTI applications about different developmental works taken up in his area, as he suspected irregularities and misappropriation of public money in these projects.
