    On 20 July 2017, Adilur Rahman Khan, Secretary of Odhikar, a human rights NGO based in Bangladesh, was detained by Malaysian Immigration at KL International Airport. Reasons for his detention are not given by the immigration.

  • China: Liu Xiaobo dies at 61

    On 13 July 2017, Liu Xiaobo, the renegade Chinese intellectual who kept vigil at Tiananmen Square in 1989 to protect protesters from encroaching soldiers, promoted a pro-democracy charter that brought him a lengthy prison sentence and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize while locked away, died under guard in a hospital.

  • China: Jiang Tianyong has been tortured

    On 11 May 2017, Jiang Tianyong’s sister went with her father to Beijing to pick up a few items from his brother’s place. But they were stopped by interceptors from Henan shortly after they arrived. They weren’t being allowed into the city. The authority then took Jiang Tianyong’s sister and father back home in their own car, driving through the night. They arrived in Luoshan in Xinyang city, Henan at around 6.00 a.m. the next morning. They have been taken to the Nangan police station for interrogation. They haven’t yet been released
