On 24 April 2018, Thaweesak Yodmaneebanphot, land rights activist, and his family were ambushed on a forested section of the Ban Rom Fa Thong-Ban Pha Tang Road in tambon Por of Wiang Kaen district about 5pm on Tuesday.
On 24 April 2018, as many as 300 indigenous Filipinos were blocked by 40 policemen from marching towards the gates of the summer courthouse of the Supreme Court as they called on the Court to dismiss a quo warranto petition filed to oust Chief Justice-on-leave Maria Lourdes Sereno.
On April 21, a group of Hanoi-based intellectuals, including Dr. Nguyen Quang A, retired police Colonel Nguyen Dang Quang and veteran writer Nguyen Binh Nguyen, were stopped by thugs and later police in a trumped-up traffic accident after they visited villagers in Dong Tam commune. On the next day, many activists in Hanoi were placed under house arrest as local authorities sent plainclothes agents and militia to their private residences in a bid to prevent them from going to Dong Tam to mark the first anniversary of the end of Dong Tam hostage crisis.
