Vietnam: Former Political Prisoner Kidnapped, Held in Secret Placefor Nearly Two Weeks

On 15 August 2018, Vietnam’s authorities kidnapped former political prisoner Nguyen Anand held him in a secret placefor nearly two weeks until August 27, his daughter Nguyen Thi Tra My has told Defend the Defenders.
On 27 August 2018, two members Hong Kong Pro-Democracy group had been detained and questioned in mainland China.
On 13 August 2018, Jiten Yumna, secretary of Centre for Research and Advocacy, Manipur was arbitrarily summoned by police.
On 16 August 2018, Cui Haoxin, a member of the Hui Muslim ethnic group known by his pen-name An Ran, and a well known minority rights defender, was visited and threatened by police after tweeting about the mass incarceration of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in China’s political “re-education camps.”
On August 5 2018, Pinaki Bhattacharya, prominent blogger and activist, received an intimidating phone call from state forces, that has left him fearing for his life.

Vietnam: Vietnam Prison Authorities Threaten Jailed Female Protesters Who Seek Appeal

On 7 August 2018, it was reported that 20 protesters who have been jailed have been subject to ill treatment in prison.
On 8 August 2018, Nisha Ayub and Pang Khee Teik, LGBT activists, had photos of them posing with the Malaysian taken down from a photography exhibition at the George Town Festival (GTF) 2018 on “instruction”. They have also recieved threats online for their photos.
