On May 14, 2018, several land and environmental rights defender were harrassed and arbitrarily detained by Surat City Police personnel as they held a consultation for the highly Bullet Train project to be built in India.
On May 14 2018, Redemptorist Father Joseph Dinh Huu Thoai, who regularly speaks out against human rights violations and abuses of religious freedom, was barred from leaving the country for reasons still unsubstantiated. On May 16 2018,Maria Do Thi Minh Hanh, president of the civil society Viet Labor Movement was also stopped from taking a flight to Germany to visit her mother.
On 10 May 2018, Sasinutta Shinthanawanitch, protester, was led by police away from the Saturday rally at Thammasat University to Chanasongkram Police Station for interrogation. They later sent her to Somdet Chaophraya Hospital, a state-run psychiatric hospital in Bangkok, where she was held four days and injected against her will with sedatives.

On 30 April 2018, Mr. Kamal Shukla, editor of the Bhumkaal Samachar, a local e-news which focuses on the rights of adivasi in the Bastar area, was charged with sedition.
On 9 April 2018, Mr. Biplab Mondal, Photo Journalist Times of India; Mr. Bhaskar Mukherjee, Journalist with a Bengali daily Bartaman; and Mr. Manas Chatterjee, Journalist, ETV Bangla, were physically attacked by supporters of political parties.
On April 17 2018, Patricia Mukhim is a well-known journalist from Shillong, Meghalaya writing on illegal mining, was visited by masked men hurled petrol bombs through the bedroom window of Patricia Mukhim’s residence, while she was at her residence.
