On 20 September 2016, Arnel Figueroa , the chairman of Pesante – Palawan, a provincial farmers’ federation, was shot dead without any provocation by a guard of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) in Yulo King Ranch, Coron, Palawan, Philippines. Another farmer was seriously injured.

On 10 July 2016 morning, Mr Kem Ley, a prominent political commentator and frequent critic of Prime Minister Hun Sen was shot dead by unknown person while he was at gas station in Phnom Penh.
On July 1, 2016, at around 7:30 p.m, Gloria Capitan, environment and land rights defender as well as the president of the people’s organization Samahan ng Nagkakaisang Mamamayan ng Lucanin (SNML) was gunned down by two unidentified men inside her business establishment in Purok 2, Barangay Lucanin, Mariveles, Bataan. She died of multiple gunshot wounds shortly before arriving at the hospital.
