Maldives: Yameen Rasheed stabbed to death

On 23 April 2017, at 3.00 AM, Mr. Yameen Rasheed, a social media activist, was found at the bottom of stairs, next to the elevator in his apartment in Male with 16 stab wounds to his chin, neck and chest. He was taken to the hospital at around 3.15 AM and pronounced dead in the hospital at around 3.50 AM. Prior to the incident, he was receiving numerous death threats.
On 6 April 2017, Elias Pureza, member of the Farmers’ Association of San Isidro (Fasi), was inside his house in Purok Palmera in Barangay Mamangan when six men on motorcycles arrived at around 8:00 p.m and killed him.
Pakistan: Muhammad Jan Gigyani Killed

Myanmar: journalist beaten to death

On 13 December 2016, the dead body of the local reporter Ko Soe Moe Tun of Eleven Media Group (EMG) was found on the Union Highway in Monywa, Sagaing Division, Myanmar. He was beaten to death with a wooden stick. Recently, he was reporting a story on illegal logging and farmland confiscation.
